Japan’s SC Maglev Trains
By Emily Ba
Train technology is very relevant to urban sustainability because rail systems are a great way to facilitate travel between urban areas. Rail systems can make travel more convenient and affordable for passengers while decreasing emissions from air travel. Superconducting magnetic levitation (SC Maglev) technology has the potential to make train travel even more efficient. Japan has been a leader in developing this technology, and has a Chuo Shinkansen line currently in construction. This project has faced many challenges, but has the potential to revolutionize the country’s transportation.
